How to Encrypt and Decrypt Sensitive Files with ES File Explorer

Protecting your sensitive data is more important than ever. From financial records to personal photos and videos, you likely have files on your Android device that need to be kept private and secure. That’s where ES File Explorer’s built-in encryption feature comes in handy.

This guide explores the importance of file encryption and provides detailed information on how to use ES File Explorer to encrypt and decrypt files easily. Let’s get started.

Why File Encryption Matters

Without encryption, any files stored on your phone or cloud storage are vulnerable to prying eyes. Hackers, snoopers on public WiFi, or even people with physical access to your device could potentially view and access your sensitive data.

File encryption encodes data using an encryption key or password, scrambling it so that it appears like gibberish to anyone without the key. This ensures your private files remain secure even if your device is lost, stolen, or hacked.

ES File Explorer’s encryption tool makes securing files quick and easy, right from your Android device. The app supports two robust encryption methods:

  • AES Encryption – The Advanced Encryption Standard is one of the strongest encryption algorithms used by governments and security organizations worldwide.
  • Blowfish Encryption – An extremely fast and secure crypto method to protect even the most sensitive files and data.

Both options provide ample security for personal use. So how do you encrypt files in ES File Explorer? Follow along!

How to Encrypt Files with ES File Explorer

  • Open ES File Explorer and navigate to the file(s) you want to encrypt.
  • Click on the three-dot menu in the top right and select “Encrypt“.
  • Choose your preferred encryption method – AES or Blowfish.
  • Enter your desired password twice to confirm it. This password will be required to decrypt the file later.
  • Click “OK” to begin the encryption process.

That’s it! ES File Explorer will create a new encrypted file in the same folder (e.g., FileName.pdf.enc). The original unencrypted file will be marked as a Redis object to easily identify it later.

How to Decrypt Files with ES File Explorer

To decrypt an encrypted file:

  • Navigate to the encrypted file in ES File Explorer.
  • Click on the three-dot menu and select “Decrypt“.
  • Enter the correct password used during encryption. ES File Explorer will create a new decrypted version of the file.
  • Be sure to keep your encryption password safe and secure. If you lose or forget it, there’s no way to decrypt the file.

You can easily encrypt and decrypt multiple files at once using the same process. Just select the files first before choosing the encrypt/decrypt option.
