How to Install Software Updates on Google Pixel

Keeping your Google Pixel up-to-date ensures you have access to the latest features, security enhancements, and bug fixes. In this guide, I will show you three (3) most common ways you can install software updates on Google Pixel.

How to Install Software Updates on Google Pixel

Follow these steps to check for and install software updates on Google Pixel:

Check for Updates via Settings

  • Open your Settings app on your Google Pixel.
  • Scroll down and click on System.
  • Go to Advanced, and select System Update.
  • Next, check for updates in the bottom-right corner.

If you’re connected to Wi-Fi, the update will download automatically, and you can pause it at any time.

Use Google Assistant

For instance, you can activate Google Assistant on your Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro by saying, “Update my phone now.”

When you receive a notification, open it and click on the update action. If you cleared the notification or your device was offline, you can follow these steps:

  • Open your device’s Settings app.
  • Go to System, and click on System Update.
  • Check your update status and follow any instructions that come next to complete the process.

Security Updates and Google Play System Updates

Most system updates and security patches happen automatically.

  • Next, click on Security & Privacy and go to System & Updates.
  • Click on Security Update for security updates, or Google Play System Update for Google Play system updates
