How to Use Face ID to Unlock Your iPhone
Face ID is a facial recognition system that allows users to unlock their iPhones, authenticate purchases, and sign in to apps by scanning their faces. It is safe, secure, and easy to set up and use.
In this guide, I will show you how to use Face ID to unlock your iPhone. The Face ID feature is available on the iPhone X and later models. Click here for a list of iPhones that support Face ID.
Before getting started, make sure that your face is clean and unobstructed. Remove glasses, hats, or scarves if you wear them regularly. Also, ensure that your iOS is up to date. It’s always advisable to keep your phone updated.
Steps to Use Face ID to Unlock Your iPhone
Once you have checked all these tips, follow the steps provided below to activate the Face ID and start unlocking your iPhone:
STEP #1: Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone. If you have a passcode set up on your device, you’ll need to enter it to access the settings.
STEP #2 In the “Settings” app, scroll down and go to “Face ID & Passcode” and click on “Set Up Face ID” in the Face ID & Passcode settings.
STEP #3: Next, hold your iPhone in portrait orientation and position your face within the on-screen frame. Make sure to move your face around to capture it from various angles.
STEP #4: The iPhone will instruct you to gently move your head in a circle. This helps the device create a detailed 3D map of your face. Continue until the first scan is complete.
STEP #5: After the first scan is complete, it will ask you to repeat the process, moving your head again in a circle. This further refines the Face ID data.
STEP #6: Once both scans are complete, you’ll see a message saying, “Face ID is now set up“. Click “Continue.”
STEP #7: Now, toggle the “iPhone Unlock” option and click on “Continue” to complete the Face ID setup process.
STEP #8: You’ll have the option to enable or disable “Require Attention for Face ID.” When enabled, your iPhone will check that your eyes are open and looking at the screen before unlocking.
STEP #9: If you have a significant change in your appearance (e.g., drastic hairstyle change, facial hair, or surgery), you can set up an alternate appearance to improve Face ID recognition. Setting up an alternate appearance is optional.
STEP #10: Now, click on the “Done” button to finish the Face ID setup process.
Face ID is now enabled on your iPhone, and you can use it for unlocking your device, authorizing app purchases, and more. Make sure to keep your Face ID data secure and only enable it for features you’re comfortable with.
If Face ID doesn’t recognize your face, you’ll be prompted to enter your passcode. This can happen if you’re wearing a mask, sunglasses, or hat, or if you’ve made a significant change to your appearance.
