Utah Jazz – History, Players and Their Salaries

The Utah Jazz are an NBA basketball club headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Utah Jazz are a member of the Western Conference’s Northwest Division in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Vivint Arena has hosted the team’s home games since 1991.

The New Orleans Jazz (named after New Orleans’ legacy of creating jazz music) joined the league as an expansion team in 1974. In 1979, the Jazz relocated to Salt Lake City. In their early years, the Jazz were one of the league’s least successful teams. Although it took the Utah Jazz ten seasons to reach the playoffs for the first time in 1984, they did not miss them again until 2004.

John Stockton and Karl Malone rose to prominence as the team’s franchise players in the late 1980s, becoming one of the most famous point guard–power forward duos in NBA history. They made two NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, losing both times to the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan.
